OUR CURRICULUM AND SUBJECTS OFFERED
1. Number Work (Numeracy)

Number Work (Numeracy) in The Sanctuary Montessori refers to the foundational skills and concepts related to mathematics that young learners are introduced to during their early years of education. These concepts typically include counting, number recognition, basic operations (addition and subtraction), understanding patterns, measurement, and spatial awareness.

Learning Number work has many benefits, of which a few are outlined below;

1. Cognitive Development: Early numeracy skills promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical reasoning abilities, laying the foundation for future learning.

2. Confidence in Math: Introducing math concepts early helps learners develop a positive attitude towards numbers and mathematics, reducing anxiety and fear associated with math later on.

3. Language and Communication Skills: Discussing math concepts builds vocabulary and improves language skills as learners learn to articulate their understanding of quantities and relationships.

4. Real-life Application: Early math skills help learners make sense of the world around them, enhance their ability to handle everyday situations like shopping or cooking, and support their independence.

2. Language (Literacy)

Literacy in the preschool encompasses the early skills and knowledge related to reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It involves nurturing a child’s understanding of language and text to prepare them for successful communication and comprehension in later educational stages.

It involves Phonemic Awareness where our learners learn to recognize and manipulate sounds in spoken words, including identifying rhymes and syllables. This skill is crucial for reading development. It also includes Alphabet Knowledge where our preschool learners are introduced to letters, including letter names and sounds, helping them understand that letters represent sounds in spoken language. Additionally, it includes Vocabulary Development where learners are exposed to new words through stories, songs, and conversations that helps build a rich vocabulary essential for effective communication.

Benefits

1. Cognitive Development: Engaging with language and text stimulates brain development, enhancing cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills.

2. Communication Skills: Developing strong oral and written communication skills early on supports learners ability to express themselves clearly and understand others.

3. Foundation for Reading Success: Early literacy experiences create a solid foundation for future reading and writing skills, increasing the likelihood of academic success in later grades.

3. Creativity

Creativity refers to the expression and exploration of ideas through various forms of artistic and imaginative activities. This can include art, music, dance, dramatic play, storytelling, and hands-on projects. Creativity encourages our learners to think outside the box, develop their unique perspectives, and communicate their feelings and thoughts.

The Artistic Expression where learners engage in activities like drawing, painting, and crafting, allows them to express themselves visually and experiment with colours, shapes, and materials. It also involves Music and Movement. Participation in musical activities, singing, and movement games encourages rhythm, coordination, and joy of expression.
